A young Israeli designer has invented a wheelchair attachment which allows wheelchair users greater ability to interact with those around them.

Tammy Kalinsky, a 26 year old graduate from the Holon Institute of Technology, has designed the attachment, known as ‘Side by Side’, to allow a wheelchair to be pushed from the side, rather than from behind.

The design enables eye contact and facilitates conversation between a wheelchair user and caregiver. ‘Side by Side’ also hopes that a greater level of care can be achieved by allowing caregivers to more easily gauge facial expressions.

The product is pending patenting rights so is currently not available to purchase. We’d love to know what you think about ‘Side by Side’, would this product make a difference to your life?
