Why not People? Celebrity launches accessible events company

By Sarah Campbell

Jameela Jamil hosted the launch event for her new company Why Not People? - a music and events members club for people with disabilities - earlier this month.

The TV presenter, model, former Radio 1 DJ, feminist and generally good human has first-hand experience of living with a disability, having been severely injured and having to learn to walk again after a car accident in her late teens.

The campaign has gained support from artists such as Tinie Tempah, Sam Smith, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran, among many others.

Speaking on the company’s YouTube channel, Jameela said: “I personally cannot live in a world anymore that has so many amazing technological advances, and yet we can’t seem to make the basic, and they really are basic, changes that it takes in order to accommodate such a huge portion, and an important portion, of society.

“And so at my company, and in my events, you will not be cornered off at the sides, you won’t be separated from your friends and family. You are going to be right in the middle, in all of the action, alongside everyone else, watching our world class performers.

“This is so so long overdue and I’m so excited that it might actually happen.”

Their website explains, “We are more than just an events company, members club and pretty face - we are smashing the stereotype, battering down the barriers and re writing the rules to make sure that disabled people's lives are made better”.
