Blackwood residents meet adorable therapy bunnies and friends

This week the cuteness was amped up to 11 in MacLehose Court, Blackwood’s residential care home in Greenock. Bunnies, guinea pigs, ducks, chickens and pink nosed little rodents were brought in to give everyone a good lift and a healthy dose of aww.

Laura schosloff has been running Bunny & Co. Mobile Petting Zoo for 7 years. After being made redundant from the factory she worked in she decided life’s too short and it was time to do something she really loved. “I love people and I love animals, so I thought I’d put the two together and I went where I thought I could do a lot of good.”

“it brings blood pressure down, relaxes people and is good all-round therapy. Seeing animals, interacting with them – it’s good for the soul”.

Sandra McGale is the activities coordinator at MacLehose Court and she was thrilled with the visit. “It’s gone down really well. It’s great to see all the residents happy, especially John. He’s sitting there grinning like a Cheshire cat and Natalie’s really enjoying it as well.”

The above-mentioned John looked delighted with the little guinea pig that sat happily on his knees munching away on a piece of lettuce while getting gently petted by him.

Another resident, Natalie said - “it’s been really lovely. I’ve made some friends, particularly this rabbit – Thunder. He seems very content. It’s a nice, relaxing way to spend the afternoon.”

Christine found a friend in a white rabbit called Snowy who cuddled up to her for the whole afternoon. She ended up re-christening him Martin and has already asked when Laura and the petting zoo will be back?

Here’s a quick show-reel showing some of the highlights of the afternoon…
