Alzheimer's Research UK roll out video game to boost research into dementia

Every 3 seconds, someone, somewhere in the world, is diagnosed with dementia. The disease attacks the brain and affects the way it works, gradually stripping back memories and changing the people you love. No-one has ever survived dementia and there currently is no known cure.

But people are trying…

Scientists are constantly working hard to try to better understand dementia and come up with effective ways to fight and ultimately cure it. The charity Alzheimer’s Research UK has teamed up with Deutsche Telecom, University College London and the University of East Anglia to develop Sea Hero Quest, a smartphone game that collects valuable data for research all the while giving gamers a fun experience.

So what’s the game? Well, a good trailer will explain it better than I ever could.

It may be a little difficult for some to see how playing a game can help research, but the cognitive reactions of gamers can actually add up to a valuable pool of data for scientists. If you want to find out more, visit the Sea Hero Quest website to get it straight from the experts. And if you want to give it a shot, you can go to the App Store and download it for free.

Happy gaming.
