The American company Apple has unveiled a new consumer app called “Health” which will suit iPhones, iPads and Mac computers. This new Health app concept will be able to collect data from other third-party apps. The aim of the app is to give you information about your activity level, your weight, your chronic medical conditions like diabetes and blood pressure.

The Health app concept which was highlighted in June 2014 is developed by the Apple platform Healthkit. This platform facilitates pulling in of health data from other partners. Among them, Nike commits to keeping all the users’ health-related information.

Apple is also working with the medical research group Mayo Clinic. This nonprofit group already owns an app which logs information like blood pressure. Thanks to this partnership, Healthkit alerts the Mayoclinic app when the obtained results are not in the normal range. In case of severe deviation, the app initiates contact with medical professionals.

Finally, the third strategic partner which works on the project is Epic Systems. It is a leading system EHR (Electronic Health Record) which integrates personal health records.

At bespoken we have noticed that a lot of speculation and rumours have been swirling since the presentation of this innovative new concept. Many people predict that the Health App will become one of the features of the iWatch. At the present time, the Health app concept is just similar to Apple’s Passbook app: a virtual pocket for airline boarding passes coupons and movie tickets.

Apple is convinced that this new application will make a big impact on the mobile health industry. Apple is constantly striving to focus on massive opportunities and to target new potential markets. According to them, sending health information to medical practitioners will become essential in our everyday life.

However, Apple is not experienced with healthcare yet. Thereby, the company plans to acquire other companies which are involved in this market in order to increase its market share. Furthermore, wearable batteries which collect data need to be slimmer, more powerful, weightless and stronger before commercialising any product. Right now, the Bluetooth power protocol also consumes too much power so it drains the battery.

Overall, Apple needs to muster its strength to be able to launch the “Health” app. A new conference will take place in the fall to give more information about this new concept. Have you ever heard about this technology? Do you think it could work? Let us know.
