In 2003 Darren Heaton had a fall and broke his spine in four places, after the initial shock and trauma of living with a spinal injury, Darren soon started to get his life back on track and has taken on many challenges raising thousands of pounds for the Grenadier Guards.

Since that accident Darren hasn't slowed down one bit and has been supporting his son who serves in the Grenadier Guards by raising funds for the Colonel's Fund. Here is a short glimpse of what he has already achieved as well as what is to come:

In 2010 Darren completed Bertie Bears Walk for Heroes travelling from London to Wellington Barracks in Glossop. You can read an article about that event here.

In 2011 Darren took on Bertie Bears Long Way Down which saw him travel from Shetland to St Agnes covering 1300 miles in just 7 weeks. An article about that challenge can be found here.

Though of course, Darren has no intention of stopping there. He already has challenges lined up for 2012 and 2013 to continue his support of the Colonel's Fund. And his new adventure 'Rolling for Heroes' is very simple. He is literally preparing to manually push himself around the Coastal Roads of the UK.

Darren said: "My son, Chris Heaton, is a serving Grenadier Guard who has recently returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan.  Whilst out there he unfortunately lost comrades during engagements with the Taliban and witnessed injuries to close friends.  With such a personal connection, this has led me to attempt this journey to raise money for injured British troops, especially the Grenadier Guards."

Which will obviously be enough right? Nope! In 2013 Darren is heading from London to Canada! Watch this space.

Please get behind Darren's amazing efforts and share your support for an amazing guy!
