Finding clean, accessible toilets and parking spaces when on the move can be a real challenge for wheelchair users. A new app and website ‘WheelMate’ is designed to change that.

‘WheelMate’ gives you an instant overview of your nearest wheelchair-friendly toilets and parking spaces. The information is provided by other wheelchair users who add and verify every single location themselves, ensuring it works the way it should.

Interesting concept but crowdsourcing data like this is heavily dependant on the engagement of users. There seems to be more than one such project on the go (wheelmap.org for instance) and the more such projects sprout up the more thinly the userbase gets spread, especially if these companies aren't sharing data. Has anyone done a comprehensive study on publicly-available geodata resources for the UK that might tie in to such a project? There appear to be a handful of potentially interesting resources out there dealing with certain aspects of accessibility data (e.g. geoaccess.org has some interesting links regarding accessible travel), but is anyone aware of any all-encompassing UK-based projects working on accessibility geodata?

Finding disabled parking isn't my problem although this is  great idea & help. My problem is the walking wounded taking those that are wide enough to get the wheelchair out. Why they continue to use the extra space parking is beyond me. They still don't usually have to pay in a normal space.
