Global tech giant Samsung has unveiled its latest smartphone...which can be controlled using your eyes!

The Galaxy SIV features eye-tracking technology that could make smartphones more accessible to people with disabilities.

Specialist eye tracking software has been available for years for people with severe disabilities but the Galaxy SIV is the first mainstream consumer device to incorporate it.

The adoption of this technology by Samsung could lead the way for its further application in smartphones and other consumer products, which could be adapted and optimized for disabled people.

The main features demonstrated at Samsung’s presentation yesterday were “smart pause”, which pauses videos when the user looks away from the screen, and “smart scroll”, a way of navigating with eye movements or waving the hand over the screen.

There is little information as yet about other features that could be of benefit to disabled people - such as rumours of typing text messages with eye movements - but hopefully Samsung and other companies will integrate these functions in future models.

The smartphone is due to be released globally at the end of April and will be available on major mobile networks.
