Daniel Biddle a survivor of the 7/7 bombings has created a smartphone app to help people with disabilities travel around London more easily.

Daniel Biddle lost both his legs, spleen and left eye after a bomb exploded on a tube train. His Ldn Access app details step-free access, ramps and usable toilet facilities at thousands of venues. Mr Biddle says he created it after finding that his wheelchair had made many venues become inaccessible. "What happened on 7/7 robbed me of the ability to just go anywhere," he said.

"I can think of numerous instances where I've stopped somewhere to use the toilet or gone to a restaurant only to find it is impossible. There is such a lack of useful information for people in a wheelchair, those with learning difficulties or people with a visual or hearing impairment."

London Access is designed to be used as a source of information for those who have a specific user needs that has previously restricted the places they can go and visit in London, this may be a person with a disability either physical or sensory or even both, as well as families with young or infant children as well as the elderly, and visitors to London, basically anyone who wants reliable information.

My UK Access wants to prove that good access and accessible information is achievable, and in some cases organisations are doing their up most to be accessible they just don’t realise it, we aim to ensure that they firstly recognise what they have done and secondly that potential customers know what they have done to be more accessible. The App shows our users what they can expect at a certain location before thy have even left their front room, that way they plan a truly accessible day out with out the stress and trepidation that can often arise when going somewhere for the very first time.

From the Home page you can search for Attractions, Entertainment, Places

to Eat, Hotels, Transport and Useful Numbers. Each search result provides contact details, description, map view and access information for locations in London.

f you are not sure where in London you want to go you can use the Top 5 search. Top 5 search is available for each search category and is displayed in the same way as album search in iTunes.

I moved away from London after 22 years living there partly because it was so dreadful for disabled people to get around.  I now live in NI, a far cry from the bustle of London.  I do miss it, but I was sick of being more or less housebound.  Anything that helps the disabled in London is fab news x
