I have a friend who is unable to use her legs so uses a wheelchair and has a baby.  She has brought up the issue again and again of how wheelchairs are not designed for mothers.  She would like a wheelchair that would help her be independent with her daughter, some kind of add on maybe or means of allowing her small daughter to be in the chair with her.  Come on innovators, a challenge for you!

Hello - yes there's a few people who have thought about this. Do you (or does she) know about http://www.parentsinwheelchairs.com/ and their FB page which has a few ideas already listed for this (http://www.facebook.com/groups/101391493240244/).

As a wheelchair user and new parent myself, I find this an interesting one thought am not convinced of the options I have seen as they all seem to have major drawbacks or restrictions in wheelchair use. About to experiment with a simple harness myself.

In the meantime, you might like to have a look at http://www.yankodesign.com/2012/06/29/wheelchair-adaptive-stroller/

This is just the beginning of a conversation....

Hi Debbie. Did your friend get this resolved? We've recently done some work to heavily adapt a walker to enable its use with a pushchair (amongst other things). I don't know where your friend is geographically but we have workshops near Watford and also near Holmfirth West Yorkshire. We'd be happy to take a look at the sort of thing she's looking for and even design and make for her if we don't know of a better solution available off-the-shelf. We are a charity specialising in making specialist equipment for people living with disability so could be a good option.

Regards ..
