hi can you design a tracked system that you can fit a wheelchair in to enable wheelchair users to access area's they can not at the moment, for an example i love fishing but i cant access the beach as my existing wheelchair gets stuck, it just digs in, its the same with my power-chair  i would love to have a system i could wheel myself into which could be driven with either the controls of my power-chair or if using a manual chair it should have controls that are easy to use.

Hi David,

Would the Mountain Trike be any good for you?

http://www.bespoken.me/forum/topics/featured-innovation

HI GONE THROUGH ALL THE OFF ROAD TYPES MADE AND AVAILABLE IN THE UK BUT NON ARE ANY GOOD ON BEACHES, SAND OR SHINGLE I HAVE SEEN A TRACKED AND 6 WHEEL CHAIR ON U TUBE BUT THEY ARE IN THE US

There is always a compromise between manually powered thin(ish) wheels and sand / snow / shingle / etc... There are quite a number of tracked wheelchair carrying gizmos out there. The problem is the price! They're usually mega money (for example: http://www.ottobock.com/cps/rde/xchg/ob_com_en/hs.xsl/42564.html) -- and this is definitely NOT an endorsement of Otto Bock, but just used for illustrative purposes as one of many I have seen about.

If you've had a compensation payout, these might be quite fun. Otherwise you're looking at the http://www.mountaintrike.co.uk/ or http://www.hippocampe.co.uk/ or http://spokz.co.uk/products/off-road-wheelchair-pack.asp as the best beach options.

Actually this is something I am looking at at the moment with my website http://disabledgear.com/.

Hi David

If you can't find what you're looking for then we might be able to help. We're a charity that designs, makes and modifies equipment for people with disabilities and we're always up for a challenge. You can find more details of what we do on www.demand.org.uk or you could always call our design team here in Hertfordshire (01923 681800) or West Yorkshire (01484 666261)

Best regards
