Ref the question about wheelchairs and cars, and suitable adaptations: if people are able to make it, the best place for comparison in one place is the annual national Mobility Roadshow, taking place next year (its 30th anniversary event) at the Telford International centre from 27th - 29th June.  This free consumer-focussed event brings together a wide range of vehicles, manufacturers, adaptation and conversion specialists for visitors to assess their individual requirements. The show is run by registered charity Mobility Choice - not to be confused with Motability, though they are also at the show, but the event is for anyone with a mobility problem, whatever their age, Motability customers or private vehicle owners. Visitors with full licence holders get to test drive the adapted vehicles as well. Website www.mobilityroadshow.co.uk

Otherwise I would suggest contacting the local Forum of Mobility Centre http://www.mobility-centres.org.uk/services/ who will usually have a selection of different adaptations available to try. Ricability is also a good source of information www.ricability.org.uk and produce a range of info booklets (FOC) on driving with different adaptations and disabilities. Hope that's useful!
