Developed by the Royal National Institute for Blind People, Insight Radio started as an online venture in 2003. It is now a successful station with over 130,000 listeners both online and on Freeview. But what makes it such a success?

Informed, lively and accessible, Insight Radio covers a wide range of topics. From traditional ones like news, sport, and entertainment to more specialised topics such as Tech Talk and Blind Yoga. Designed and run by visually impaired presenters, the station truly aims to provide a complete platform for news and visual impairment issues.

Two programmes particularly caught my attention. Very much in tune with today's blogging culture, Sam Little runs “A Little Insight” an audio blog inspired by her daily life. Sam is exceptionally inspiring, from running marathons for charity to being a bridesmaid, she covers all ground. Passionate about raising awareness, her mission is to bring attention to all disabilities and how people affected by them achieve amazing things.

You can listen to her latest podcast here:

If like us at the Blackwood foundation you are particularly interested in innovation and technology, you should listen to Tech Talk. Always current, latest programs have discussed the Apple Watch, smart contact lenses and much more. Coming soon is a series of tutorials where they will explain how to use the latest gadgets. Don't forget, RNIB runs a Technology Support Squad if you need one-to-one help with any devices.

Overall, Insight Radio provides great service for the community, listen to them and tell us what you think.
