TGA assists pupils with mobility issues by donating wheelchair to Thomas Gainsborough School

TGA, the UK’s leading mobility scooter specialist based in Sudbury, has donated a new Elite wheelchair to the Thomas Gainsborough School in Great Cornard, so pupils with mobility issues can access lessons more easily.

TGA continues to be a successful, family-run business that has been based in Suffolk for over 25 years. It supports the community through charity and goodwill initiatives, as the management team believes ‘giving something back’ to locals is essential. Commercially, it provides a market leading range of mobility scooters nationally along with a retail showroom that benefits all of East Anglia. This comprehensive showroom delivers access to award winning scooters such as the Breeze and Vita, rise and recliner chairs, bathlifts and smaller independent living aids, walkers and wheelchairs. One of TGA’s latest wheelchair models, an Elite, has been donated to the Thomas Gainsborough School following a request for help from one of the teachers, Mr Howe. He originally contacted Rachel Elding, TGA’s Retail Development Manager, for a potential discount on a wheelchair however when the company agreed to donate an Elite free of charge, Mr Howe and Head Teacher, Mr Lloyd, were absolutely delighted.

Rachel comments: “As soon as Mr Howe explained the mobility difficulties several of his pupils were encountering on a daily basis, I knew TGA must be able to help in some way or another. Several students are attending the school on crutches due to broken legs and ankles, so moving between lessons is quite difficult and time consuming. Some students have developed bad blisters on their hands due to the distances they are covering, so a method to resolve this issue was desperately needed. The donation of this wheelchair is already delivering a significant difference to many pupils and as several of the TGA team members have children at Thomas Gainsborough, this donation has delivered a positive feeling all round.”

Mr Lloyd, Head Teacher said: “We are delighted with very generous donation that TGA have made to Thomas Gainsborough School of a high quality wheelchair. The chair will be used by students who have short-term mobility needs, such as broken bones or sprains. It is marvellous that a local company can respond so quickly and positively and support their local schools so effectively. We can not praise TGA enough.”

Tim Ross, TGA National Sales Manager added: “In addition to this donation, we are now actively involved with the school in terms of supporting career guidance and work experience placements. The whole business and I firmly believe in the employment of talented, young locals as they are indeed the future. Finding a job these days can be really difficult when you have no commercial experience, so supporting the Thomas Gainsborough School was a logical decision for us. As a leading brand that is renowned for quality mobility scooters and impeccable service, anything we can do to develop our next generation of skilled employees is also so important for TGA’s sustained success.”
