On Stand B74 at the 30th Anniversary Mobility Roadshow (27–29 June, Telford International Centre), the award winning mobility specialist TGA, successfully launched its new Vita Lite mobility scooter and hosted Steve Tarrant’s announcement to tackle a new mobility scooter world record in 2014.

The Vita Lite represents a breakthrough in compact mobility scooter design and has been developed by TGA to meet the growing demand for smaller models. As part of the pioneering and popular Vita range, this new Lite model encompasses all the cutting-edge styling, performance and comfort associated with the brand whilst providing a highly manoeuvrable chassis. Active suspension results in a smooth and stable ride that reflects the experience normally only associated with larger scooters and ensures maximum safety for owners. The new Vita Lite has independent suspension on each front wheel that provides additional stability when mounting kerbs at an angle or negotiating uneven terrain.

Daniel Stone, TGA Managing Director explained: “The Mobility Roadshow has once again proved to be successful for TGA with our representatives busy all three days of the event, particularly on the Saturday. The new Vita Lite generated high levels of interest from visitors as many were already aware of the brand’s pedigree due to the popularity of the Standard, Sport, Midi and off-road ‘X’ versions. We continually listen, understand and respond to the changing needs of end users and the recent trend towards more compact mobility scooters, will be further satisfied by the launch of the Vita Lite. With the nation’s favourite Eclipse and new folding Minimo car boot scooter, the new Vita Lite adds to the leading, compact scooter choice available from TGA.”

Coinciding with the unveiling of the Vita Lite on Stand B74, Steve Tarrant, Roadshow Ambassador and disabled Motorsport Marshal, officially announced his intention to tackle a new Guinness World Record on a TGA Vita X mobility scooter. The ‘JoGLE Challenge’ will involve Steve attempting to travel from John O’Groats to Land’s End in the shortest time ever on a mobility scooter during late Spring/early Summer next year. He intends to tackle this epic journey on a TGA Vita X as it is renowned for its reliability and off-road capabilities. Steve will be raising funds for two charities during the attempt – MacMillan Cancer Support who cared for his late mother and Accessible Motorsport, a not-for-profit motorsport organisation for disabled drivers. TGA will be supporting Steve with the loan of a Vita X, on call engineers and a series of spare batteries and parts for his rolling pit crew to use as the challenge takes place. The current, official Guinness World Record stands at 24 days and 9 hours, which Steve plans to smash as his Vita X will have a single charge range of approximately 30 miles.

Steve Tarrant, 51 from Poole, is an inspirational individual who survived a highly publicised near-fatal crash incident at Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2000. Steve lost a leg above the knee and suffered multiple injuries when an F1 racing car collided with him at over 100mph whilst marshaling on the finish line at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Steve managed to miraculously pull through the aftermath of this terrible accident and now marshals at over 30 international motorsport events per year such as the Le Mans 24 Hours, Petit Le Mans at Atlanta and Goodwood meetings. During 2012 Steve was selected as a medal bearing Games Maker for the Olympics and Paralympic sailing events in Weymouth. This subsequently led to him receiving the Big Society Award from David Cameron at 10 Downing Street and appearing on BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Prior to Steve’s involvement in the Games, he attempted an epic 24-hour world record challenge at the 2012 Mobility Roadshow, which has now led to a different attempt in 2014.

Steve concludes: “I would like to thank TGA for its support once more with my 2014 challenge. JoGLE presents a really exciting opportunity to push myself even further than the 2012 world record attempt. I have already started building my support team and feel confident that my chosen machine, the TGA Vita X, has the capabilities to meet all the varied terrain and driving conditions I might face. This challenge will clearly reiterate to people across the UK who have restricted mobility, that TGA scooters have the performance and reliability to open up a wider world of carefree independence. Records are there to be broken and I plan to give it 100% commitment all the way.”
